Corn exports from India have fallen extensively this year. This happened as there was a lot of demand in the domestic market, and the focus on exports was reduced. The consumption of corn in ethanol structure and feed has increased in the country. In addition, the price of corn in the domestic market continues to be higher than the previous one, which is being exported.
Rahul Chauhan, India’s Rahul Chauhan, said, “Exports (corn) are taking place, but in limited quantities. In November and December, exports are in good quantities, but exports are weak. However, major exports are less than last year.”
Corn imports have increased
Chauhan, on the other hand, said the import of maize was increased due to the demand of ethanol manufacturers. India does not allow GM maize imports. Ukraine and Myanmar are the other major producers, along with India that raises non -GM maize. In 2024, maize imports were more than 8 lakh tonnes. Of these, 4.37 lakh tonnes were imported from Myanmar, 4.45 lakh tonnes from Ukraine and 1,875 tonnes from Singapore.

According to DGCIS data, as of December this year, the main exports price from Nepal to Nepal was.08.08 million ($ 104.41 million), Bangladesh 86 13.86 million (Bhutan exports 84 12.84 million ($ 8.01 million), Sri Lanka for $ 23.64 million (606 million).
Corn is the fastest demand
For 2024-25, India’s corn demand is estimated to be more than 470 lakh tonnes, most of which are 220 lakh tonnes from the poultry feed segment, 50 lakh tonnes from the cattle feed and 50 lakh tonnes from the flour sector. It is estimated that demand from the ethanol sector is 100 lakh tonnes. The industry estimates that this product will be 320 lakh tonnes.
Corn production in the country has increased, as well as its consumption. It is mostly used in the ethanol and poultry feed, which has increased the price of maize in domestic markets. Exports are declining due to prices rise because most outsiders do not want to buy at an expensive rate.
A large roll of ethanol
The importance of corn is constantly increasing as it is mixed with patrol with petrol and mainly used in poultry feed, so the government is aiming to increase production level. The Ministry of Agriculture set a 20 % ethanol blending target by 2025-2026. To meet this goal, the government is trying to increase the production of maize to farmers. For this, schemes such as good seeds and subsidy have been preferred.
