Insta360 x5 camera hand-on: big sensors, better low light performance

Insta360 x5 (50 550) The company’s latest 8K360 action camera and it remains a different proposal for traditional action cams, it is more powerful, more reliable and easy to use.
There is a large 1/1.28-inch sensor compared to x5 S 1/2-inch sensor, in more detail and an important boost for lower-light performance. The problem with the wide-angle camera capture is, especially in low-lighting settings. At this time the specification upgrades, including the 13.5 stops of the dynamic range, is significantly reduced.
Over the years, I have tried to add 360-degree cameras to my workflow, using them on vacation or events. However, the most content I hold is in the evening or dark platform, literally the main weakness of these types of cameras. In an attempt to address those shooting conditions, Insta360 introduced a new Pure Purevide Mode, with AI noise reduction and dynamic range optimization for clear, bright footage in low-light conditions. It is not perfect, but it moves from something that cannot be used in fuzzy video, otherwise it is better. With a 5nm AI chip and two imaging chips, X5 can now capture active HDR in footage up to 5.7K 60 FPS.

This chip also reduces processing time. The Insta360 is not mentioned how fast, but the account, on-devices processing and file transfers to my smartphone are noticeable. Videos can be saved almost instant on the camera, but saving several small clips to my phone took 30 seconds, compared to the previous devices.
Although the X5 does not offer more resolution video than its ancestors, it packs in more shooting options such as Instaframe, which is rapidly becoming my go-to shooting mode. Instaframe can record a simple “flat” video and 360-degree video at the same time. It gives “instantly shared” flat video, not required by reframing or heavy editing.
When you have, Insta 360’s fellow smartphone app with some very useful editing tools is further enhanced. You can edit the 360-degree video to focus on the user or force the same view. All this is very clear, this is a symptom that is ignored.

X5 is a very versatile tool, and something for the capture camera Everything. However, in less convenient situations (or when you are not a camera person), you may like the simplest settings and shooting techniques of the traditional action camera.
The X5 works better in low light, but it does not match the improvements we have seen in low-light smartphone photography in recent years. Although I carefully turn around in the evening to capture the low-light footage, the camera is struggling to stabilize the footage after vibration. It can be reduced by still, but also with Purevide (it may be a slightly aggressive noise), which is not yet. I will continue to test the camera and offer more seals. Insta360 pushed a firmware update at X5 hours before I published this story, added 4K60FPS recording in single-lens mode and added several resolution clots in other recording moods.
Design wise, you need to be close to the truth to say the difference between X5 and X4. They are mostly the same size, although the Insta 360 has become a polygonary effect on the front, the panel for the mike (and the new mesh wind guard).
The battery compartment and the microSD slot are preserved with a double latch where the microSD slot live and protected by solid covers with sliding locks. The grippy texture on both sides of the camera, the record and mode buttons are on the screen.
With the same thread mount, the current selfie sticks of Insta 360 work with its fresh camera, although there are no fast-chargers and cases due to hardware changes. The most important thing is: the bullet time effect of Insta360 is still here –
Most settings adjustments, like its ancestors, appear in the pull-down menus from each side of the screen. The right swip will take you to the gallery, the manual camera options are the left swipe away. Togues and Lock Settings are on the Dropdown menu. There is a lot, but if you use a smartphone, you need to know the basic navigation.

There is a total list of small important hardware improvements in X5 compared to the ancestor:
Scratch-Resistant Glass Lenses- These can change
A large capacity battery that lasts 180 minutes
Rapidly charging battery (0 to 80 percent in 20 minutes)
New built -in Steel Mesh Wind Guard
IP68 waterproofing up to 49 feet
Magnetic mounting system
‘Twist to Shoot’ to start recording by twisting the connected selfie stick
Insta360 x5 is now on sale, 60 660 is also available with the Essential Bundle. The bundle includes additional battery, fast-charge case, “invisible” selfie stick, lens guards and carri case. It is $ 50 higher than Insta360 x4 Launch. Improvements for low-light performance and improvements for new shooting moods may be valuable for prices, but do not expect a video of the crisp 4K (or 8K) if the light problem.
Competition in this category is relatively limited. Rico continues its Tita series with a similar camera form, but seems to be focusing on more stills than the video, but there are no features like Gopro’s Max 360 camera, such as the traditional 4K video capture, only 8K recording. The best alternatives like last year X4 are undoubtedly 360 of the other 360 cameras of Insta 360.
Despite the low main specs and design changes compared to the previous year, the Init 360X5 is another step to this type of camera, in terms of imaging and how you share what you share.
