Mexican is preparing for the country’s first judicial elections on Sunday

Mexican is going to any other election this weekend, as Mexico becomes the first country to be elected by all its judges by popular votes. The Maranna -led government says Sunday is the first step in corruption in the judicial elections, but the process that leads to elections is not steadily traveling.

How will elections work?

Judicial Elections are the result of a constitutional reform that promoted former President Andrez Manuel Lopez Oprador and supports his successor Claudia Shinbam.

Citizens will choose their judges, the Supreme Court judges of the nation (SCJN) and the judges across the country. There are 881 positions, including the nine judges of SCJN.

Unlike regular political elections, political parties cannot participate or publicly support candidates. However, many candidates are known to have political contacts.

What’s wrong?

Milestone elections have attracted criticism from national and international civil society organizations, warning that the new organization threatens the freedom of the judiciary.

Both Lopez Obrador and Shinbam have condemned the judiciary for corruption. They have criticized it for preventing the reforms of Lopez Opradar.

“(The judiciary) does not represent the people, but rather the representatives of the Autonomous Committee, representatives of the powerful,” Lobus Oprador said in September 2024.

Opposition parties question how the change in the electoral system will deal with corruption and that the popular votes will encourage political actors and criminal organizations to support candidates to gain influence in the judiciary.

A Mexico United (MUCD) against crime Analytical “From the integration of democracy, the people of the judiciary threaten to erupt the election of the people of the judiciary, to control informed participation, to compromise the freedom of the judiciary, and to compromise the essential pillars of the uniform constitutional system.”

Voter voting is expected

Recent studies have shown that there is public misconduct on the upcoming elections. An engal Survey Of the 1,023 Mexican adults, on May 18 to 20, it was revealed that less than 50% of the surveyors were visible to the exact date of the election.

Of the surveyors, 72% have said that the judicial elections are “essential”. However, 77% do not know who are the candidates for the judges, ministers and judges.

Candidates were not allowed to receive public or private funds, which means they had to fund their own campaigns. Candidates can hold prohibited advertising forms, including participation in flyers, social media and events.

In the 2024 presidential elections, more than 60% of the voting is predicted from 18% to 20% of the population.

Many experts have expressed concern over the fitting of many judicial candidates in the upcoming elections.

Previously, the selection process for judges and magistrates focused on open competitions and choices and qualifications and skills. However, there are no legal degree, good standards, recommendation letters and pre -imprisonment in the needs of candidates in the elections.

Controversy Some candidates have been accused of some accused or drug -related crimes, sexual abuse, corruption, or relations with the underworld.

Whatever happens on Sunday, the Washington Office in Latin America (Vola) suggested that these elections would provide lessons to the rules and logistics of the next judicial election process by 2027.
