Wheat collection number crosses 180 lakh tonnes, farmers can sell products at MSP until June 30

The arrival of wheat in the country’s major production states has increased and government agencies have bought more than 18.39 million tonnes (183 lakh tonnes) from March 15 to April 23, which is 54 percent higher in the same period of the previous marketing season. According to government data, government agencies last year bought more than 119 lakh tonnes during this period. The marketing season of wheat collection runs from March 15 to June 30.
According to the ‘Mint’ report, until April 23, Punjab is leading 59 lakh tonnes of purchases, compared to 34 lakh tonnes in the same period last year. The procurement process began late in Punjab, which only increased after the crunch was celebrated on April 13.

Overall, during the marketing season of 2025-26, the government purchases Punjab (124 lakh tonnes), Haryana (75 lakh tonnes), Madhya Pradesh (60 lakh tonnes), Uttar Pradesh (30 lakh tonnes) and 20 lakh tonnes from Rajasthan (20 lakh tonnes). During the 2024-25 marketing season, the government bought 266 lakh tonnes of wheat.
