The country needs to choose what must be made in the forest in Portugal

Years pass, governments succeed, plans and reforms are doubled, new legal personalities are created, and trusted guardianship, the “shallow council” of all that comes from the previous political session … and the country still is the courage that is decided, in a political point of view, which intends to make the forest that we have in Portugal.

I explain what I mean better. Politically, the forest is burning, which occurs for several reasons. Burns, because it is a forest that a person sows almost exclusively, and away from the ideal image that people’s generalism enjoys from this forest. It burns because, every year, to a larger or less, it burns. Burning, because it is a forest that produces raw materials for important forest industries and is not limited to carbon kidnapping or biodiversity production such as fictional stories forests.

It is burning because there was no political courage to clearly assume that the forest must significantly increase its productivity and that this is only possible through a clear intensification of the levels of management that targets it – a administration that must follow the principles of “sustainable forest administration”, as specified in Forest Europe – the permanent conference between forests in Europe.

Neither, the large intensification of the levels of forest management that one wants to “give up” does not mean the group of environmental values that also aims to achieve. On the contrary, the more intense the transplanted forest administration in our country, most of which are formed by pine settlements, eucalyptus settlements and sick settlements, will be more important in this group of natural values that we used to designate “ecological systems services”.

But there is a reason, before everything, which causes the forest to be burned: it is the “bad name” that was built over 10 to 15 years, over the ten to 15 years, this forest was built in Portugal. Is it a bad name that depends on the current knowledge that science produces? No, nothing of this, as I explain below.
Interior_froncisco_silva

This bad name, which is highly focused in the eucalyptus, gradually extends to the Bravo pine, and is currently, to any types of non -original forests, not (so far) in public opinion, as a recent study of the forest perceptions conducted by ISCTE for the Mallwaf Company. In my opinion, in my opinion, this bad name is the general responsibility of journalists who, to the extent of their skills and responsibilities, cover topics related to the forest.

Now, politically, the echo of “opinion makers” (who once called it, with Grace, “sectarian specialists”) echoed more than the rest of the published opinion and public opinion. Fear of the electoral impact of measures that contradict the opinion makers of those who make the rest: decisions and procedures are avoided, and a study, plan, or other strategy is promoted. However, time will pass, and another political session will start, so that others study and plan and do not act again.

I am sorry, but in my opinion (and I give it here, because they asked for that!) No more studies, diagnoses and plans. There is only one thing to do: Leave the region and intensify the management of forest spaces. Management, management, management!

Since the time of the forest does not sympathize with the time of politicians (but it sympathizes with times of politics), it is necessary that the parties that want to play a role in our country’s governance, and feel the courage to determine the measurable goals in the 10, 20 and 30 -year horizons. And they are not ashamed because they will put productivity goals in their minds.

In order not to complicate, it will be sufficient to bear the goal of repeating the productivity of pine wood, eucalyptus and cork on this horizon. I assure you that we are still not living on the capabilities of our forest area.
