Road safety in Aveiro: It is better to fall into grace rather than funny
The latest publication of the Aveiro City Council on social networks, which announces mockery on April 1, is the installation of fixed radars on Avenida Europa, as an explanation of the negligence in which the municipality faces road safety. The use of a dangerous topic, such as demanding humor, reveals a lack of institutional sensitivity, especially in a country, last year, more than 600 people on their ways, for sure many of them, Aveirenses.

Aveiro is not an exception to the national tragedy. Avenida Europa, chosen by the municipality as an unfortunate joke stage, is exactly one of the largest black points in the municipality. The continuous speed, inputs and outputs of bad size, acceleration paths are rare, and almost absolute absence of horizontal signs and risk -framed infantry crossings. But this panorama is not limited to Avenida Europe. In many diocese, the quality of the road network leaves much of what is desirable, exposing drivers and pedestrians who suffer from it.
Comable, it is supposed to transfer priority in the modern city of Terha, still is fragmented and improvised. The few works are not the result of a clear strategy, but from the typical council’s approach to the extended hand, and always searching for the next European Fund. There is no strong standard or layout, only early use of external financing opportunities. It is the poor and old municipal policy: to do only what Brussels wants to pay, without evaluating the real costs or benefits of the population.
The offensive parking is spreading without effective supervision, feeding on the perception that the House of Representatives is afraid of disturbing potential voters. It seems that in Aveiro is more worthy than facing difficult decisions that will already guarantee more road safety.
The real question is that road safety should not depend on external or popular financing for a moment. It is the municipality’s commitment to behavior, investment and supervision without hesitation or fear of electoral concerns. Instead, it is preferable to make humor with radars, and reveals a limited mentality and the inability to deal with serious problems.
As long as this model does not change, Aveirenses will continue to attend a slight and effective way. Perhaps it is time for the executive authority to leave jokes aside and finally hold tangible responsibilities and consistent procedures, and to protect once and forever to spin on the streets of Aveiro.
