Monitoring stations: more than pass points, competitive platforms

Aveiro port.

The development of supply chains imposes a new look at loading stations. In an era where the ability to predict, efficient and sustains define supply chains’ performance standards, multimedia stations – especially those outside the perimeter of the port – play a strategic role. It should not only be seen as overflowing points, but as an integrated logistical platform, capable of adding real value to the operation of servers and competitiveness.

The development of multimedia ecosystems requires more and synchronous than material connections between transportation patterns. It requires functional integration and coordination between infrastructure and services, as well as a systematic vision of the logistical area. Dry ports called So, or dry ports play a central role here: they allow statues flow, reduce pressure on seaports, and enhance the use of more efficient and sustainable transport, such as railways.

Conditional transportation, which is often dealt with only as an economic exercise to compare the cost, should be analyzed as a strategic decision. The railway position, when expressing well -equipped and reliable stations, is a lever of competitiveness and an environmental policy tool. The ability to integrate, unify and disassemble loads into multimedia stations is necessary to ensure operating balance and reduce excessive dependence on the highway.

In Portugal, multimedia stations should develop into real value platforms. When you are in a good position in remote areas of the main ports, it works as advanced logistical accessories and as tools for loading and loyalty.

On the other hand, the Atlantic Corridor view cannot be limited to geographical design. It is necessary to create functional logistical corridors, with the ability to operate between the infrastructure, the common rules between operators and salads, and the clear guidance of the service. The Iberian Peninsula should take a single logistics market, without operational limits and transverse connection preferred to be complete in European chains.

It is also necessary to rethink the indicators we do by evaluating logistical performance. In addition to the crowded size, it is important to measure the conditional transport rate, reduce the kilometers of roads, the reliability of services, the time of the course, and the added value in a square meter of logistical infrastructure. Only with modified metrics with new reality, we will be able to make constant decisions and direct investment with rigor.

The future of logistics services on the Iberian Peninsula is through a new generation of logistical stations: smart, specialized, introductory and integrated in European flows. It is on the “internal” logistical platforms, it lies in a crucial part of the solution to increase competitiveness, enhance regional cohesion and ensure the transition to a more sustainable logistical model.
