On May 3 (15:00), persons with disabilities go out to the street with concentrations and marches throughout the country. In Aveiro, it will have a focus for the first time.

The European Day of Independent Life is placed throughout Europe on May 5. Portugal will celebrate the third Saturday, from 15:00, in different parts of the country. It aims to celebrate disability as an expression of human diversity and pride in society, but also, and above all, demanding the rights they still guarantee.
This year, Comvi – the March Organizing Committee for Independent Life, which integrates 26 organizations and groups in the field of disability and various social movements, calls for marches and concentrations that occur throughout the country.
“Our multiple identities are constantly erasing, ignoring and neglecting. We face unique challenges and interconnected with other forms of discrimination, which add up to persecution and stigma. We are people with disabilities, yes, but we are much more than that: we are varied, we want to want to admit it in this way!”
The “March for Independent Life 2025” statement claims to achieve the pillars of independent life – the foundations to ensure that all persons with disabilities, visible or invisible can live in dignity and freedom. It is time to turn words into work! “

The dynamic was first in Portugal in 2018, leading “March for Indepaly Life” people with disabilities to make their reality, bodies and struggle visible. This year, for the first time, Aveiro is one of the cities that will have a focus in Praça Da República, against the Aveiro City Council.
According to the philosophy of independent life, persons with disabilities (and they should control their private lives, make decisions on their daily lives and set goals for themselves and their future. Individual freedom, self -specific and human dignity represents the basic values of this model and constitute basic rights for the human condition, and thus persons with disabilities.
He defends compliance with the following principles and values: access to education and employment; Using public transport and public space; The right to health care; Compliance with sexual and reproductive rights and the full experience of sex; Access to information and communications; Provides support and equipment products; Ensuring adequate income and decent social support; The presence of access to it; Access to personal assistance services, completed by the plan to remove coordinated and gradual institutions; Supports Interpars to enhance empowerment and build a collective identity; The right to self -representation; Freedom to express their own identity.
