CEip PUERTO De Cabras hosted from May 19 to 23, “VIVA De La Palma in Fuerteventura”, which is a framed activity in Tangk from Cabildo de Fuerteventura, by advising handicrafts. The training was responsible for the professional teacher Maria Hernandez, who participated with students with his knowledge of traditional work with Palma, one of the most representative expressions of Canadian cultural heritage.
Capeldo Capeldo, Lollina Negreian, highlights the value of this island’s activity and explains that through this project, “this legacy aims to bring our younger residents because they will guarantee their continuity.” He also appreciated the students and highlighted his enthusiasm as a clear evidence that “the traditions are still alive when participating.”
Negrín repeated the institutional commitment to this type of proposals and indicated that “through consulting the letter, we will continue to work so that this professional activity is part of the educational environment, not only as a method, but as a basic cultural value.”
The activity not only included a practical part, but also included a valuable educational component in which Hernandez was transferred to students the importance of patience, respect for nature and the value of preserving traditions.
Naturally for the municipality of Bagara, Maria Hernandez has learned this trade since childhood that she watched her father and grandmother. Since 2012, it has been practiced professionally as a literal teacher, as he is a strong defender of the transmission of generations from traditional deals. Although he was providing training for years, in the last three years, he increased his work in schools for the purpose of cultivating new generations, which is the appreciation of cultural roots.
This initiative was welcomed with great attention from the students and teachers of the center, who highlighted the educational value of this type of experience, by linking the past and present through manual work and creativity.
