Aveiro with the largest number of companies with a “innovative development” state
Aveiro is the region that includes the most companies (28 %) of companies that have received a “innovative development”, which recognizes performance “through innovation and strategic commitment to sustainability”.

Information released in the first edition of the “Innovative Cotec Evolution” event, an organization from Cotec Portugal, the Business Association for Innovation, which has 128 important shows, 61 of which accepted.
The initiative aims to “enhance the role of innovation in a sustainable transformation and adapt to increasingly increasingly markets with regard to companies’ performance in the environment, social and government of the company.”
After Aveiro, follow the Porto regions (21 %), Lisbon (15 %), Lyria (13 %) and Braga (11 %), “reflects the concentration of innovation and sustainability in the country’s main economic centers.”
For the first time in Portugal, companies are adopting the new standard VSME/ESRS from voluntary reports, according to European sustainability directives (CSRD).
Among the distinguished companies, the conversion industry, which represents 56 % of the total, is followed by information and communications technology (10 %), trade (10 %) and advisory and scientific activities (8 %), which reflects the existence of innovation and sustainability in multiple sectors of the economy.
Companies that already enjoy the “innovative” situation that is attributed in 2024 reflect now recognized with the rehabilitation of “the development” of the diversity of Portuguese business tissues, both in the size and sectors of the activity and geographical location.
Small companies represent 46 %, while medium companies are compatible with 43 % of distinguished candidates.
At the sectoral level, the conversion industry, which represents 58 % of applications, followed by information and communications technology (10 %), trade (10 %) and advisory and scientific activities (18 %). Other sectors such as construction, energy and transportation are also recorded.
