Aveiro: “Good morning ceramics” with a program dedicated to art and ceramic tradition

Aveiro will join, next Saturday, May 17, to celebrate “Sway Day Ceramic 2025”, an initiative promoted in Europe by the European Assembly of Cereleral Cities (AEUCC), in the expression with the Portuguese Association of Cities and Villages (APTCVC).

About three dozens of Portuguese cities and villages participate in this measure, during the 18th and 19th of May, promoting European ceramics simultaneously with more than two hundred cities from seven countries, which constitute the largest international network dedicated to estimating ceramic heritage.

For the sixth year in a row, Aveiro – the founding member of APTCVC, the current president of the association and AEUCC – organizes a special program, highlighting “Ceramic Street Fest Aveiro”, which will be held in the fish market on Saturday from 10H to 18H. This initiative combines artists, craftsmen, institutions and companies related to ceramic, covering from handicrafts to industry, research and technology.

During the day, between 10:00 am, 12:30, 13:30 and 6:00 pm, “The Seven Lives of Clay” will be displayed in the life of the seven city, which offers certificates from former workers in the ceramic industry in the region, with pictures of Joa Garcia Nito and Somaya Saladan.

In the fish market, at 10:30 and 15:00, a workshop “Jamal Kintsugi for Children”, which presents the participants to WABI-SABI philosophy and Japanese ceramic repair technology in a contemporary approach. The activity is directed to children, with the active participation of parents, and pre -registration requires e -mail (Email protected).

At 12:00 pm, at the stations exhibition, “Licínio Pinto and Francisco Pereira, Aveiro Paints. From Silver Salts to Coppeds, dedicated to artists responsible for some of the most symbolic soundtracks in Portuguese railway stations. The show highlights the role of tiles as an exhibition of public arts and visual communications vehicle throughout the twentieth century.

The program ends with a tour accompanying guides, at 3:30 pm, at the City Museum, to the exhibition “Barrristas de Aveiro. Sixteenth to the nineteenth century”, which brings together 135 original works of Barrrists, and many of them are historian and signature from private and institutional groups. The presentation offers a unique vision of the heritage sculpting in clay and calls on the public to discover works that are still visible in the urban space.
