Elections to the Constitutional Assembly were scheduled on April 12, 1975. However, the incidents on March 11 have justified their postponement for 12 days and some terrorist sectors have also complained of their postponement “sign die”. At the time, the Republic President General Costa Gomes’s decisive intervention was worth it, he was in favor of conducting elections, as it was in the MFA program, and later confirmed the National Salvation Board.
The election campaign began in a complex and political radiation atmosphere on April 2, 1975. A few days later, on April 11, the first MFA-parties agreement, which promised to the central political role in the future constitutional order for the recently established MFA: The Council of Revolution and the MFA Assembly. In the event of tension between the two legalization, the election of this part was so realized: democratic and revolutionary. Despite these conditions, they were held in an ideal manner and set a decisive stage in the process of building democracy in Portugal.
