The irrigation area is spread over UP – 60% of UP has increased area and how 185 million peasants have changed
Water is the most basic requirement for agriculture for cultivation. It is also said that ‘agriculture can wait for everything except water’. From the farm to the seeds, water is required from time to time in accordance with a specific crop demand for a few days to grow the crop. Since becoming the Chief Minister of UP in March 2017, Yogi Adityanath has paid much attention to this basic agricultural facility. For this reason, irrigation capacity in Uttar Pradesh is recorded.
Under the Prime Minister’s Agricultural Irrigation Scheme, three large and very prestigious project creative canal project, Arjun Assistant Project and Ban Sagar Project are dedicated to the public and established a landmark in the state irrigation area.
A total of 976 projects have been completed so far
During the tenure of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a total of 976 small and large projects have been completed so far. The result of all this is that the state has created an additional irrigation capacity of about 48.32 lakh hectares. About 185.33 lakh farmers benefited from this. In 2017, the area under the entire irrigation area of the state is 82.58 lakh hectares. In eight years it has increased to 133 lakh hectares.
Becomes the only state of up
The result of this attempt to increase the extensive interest of farmers, the area of crop cover and yield, is the only state that cultivates 76 per cent of the land available in the country today and 86 per cent of the total land is irrigation.
5 lakh hectares of irrigation capacity will soon be expanded
This process of increasing irrigation capacity is still ongoing. The Central Ganga Nagar Project on the Rohin River is the second phase of the Barrage in the Kanhar Irrigation Project and Maharajganj. With these projects being completed, additional irrigation capacity of about 5 lakh hectares will be created. Also 7 lakh farmers will benefit from this. Similarly, under the River Joint Project, the thirst of 2.51 lakh hectares of fields of Lalitpur from Jhansi, Mahoba, Banda and Bundkund is sprinkled when the Ken Betwa link is completed. Also, 21 lakh people get drinking water.
For a permanent solution of floods and drought, the River Link project is the dream of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. On his birthday, on December 25 last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone. The Yogi government is working fast with 90 and 10 per cent of the project.
Projects that have been pending for decades
1- Creator Canal National Project
The project was found in 1971-72. The work on it began in 1978. Earlier, it was extended to 9 districts in 1982, in 1982. For this reason, 14.5 lakh hectares of additional land was irrigated, with 30 lakh farmers from nine districts of Pervanthal. It is estimated that 24 lakh tonnes of food production of East Uttar Pradesh Uttar Pradesh will support 24 lakh tonnes with increased irrigation capacity from the project. The total length of 992 canals included in the project is 6,623 km.
Of these, 290 canals, which are 2000 km from 1978-2017, have been completed, and by 2017-2021, the total length of 702 canals has been completed with 4,623 km. The difference will be cleared by data, how much work has been done in four decades and how much work on this project has been done in five years.
2- Arjun Assistant Project
The project began in 2008-2009. Under the Arjun Assistant Dam Project, a total of 737 hectares of land was taken to the canal by 2017, after Yogi Adityanath became the chief minister of 1673 hectares. From 2009 to 2012, 41 km from 2012-2017.
The project, which has a budget of Rs 2,655 crore, has spent Rs 337 crore from 2009 to 2012 and 553 crore to 553 crore from 2012-2017, while the Yogi government has spent Rs 1764 crore in 2017-2021. The Arjun Assistant Canal Project has provided irrigation facilities to 69,000 hectares of land from the 244 km long canal and has started to benefit 1.49 lakh farmers.
3- Bon Sagar Project
This project is completed in 2018. Its irrigation capacity is 1.50 lakh hectares. About two million farmers benefit from this. The government is also working on other schemes to expand irrigation capacity on a war basis. It includes multiple schemes such as placing new tube wells, reiterating the olds, solar pump, check dam and farm pond, Amrit Lake and Model Pond and Ganga Talab.
