Consumers with domestic and cottage light connection (PPL) will get a 54 paise discount per unit of consumption of over 50 units. These consumers now have to pay electric bills at a rate of Rs.2.45 per unit. At the same time, the smart prepaid meter of this type will add additional benefits to up to 79 paise per unit of 25 paise per unit.
Smart meter consumers benefit more
Since April 1, the Bihar government has decided to provide additional benefits to the installed smart prepaid meters. More than 62 lakh smart meters consumers will get this benefit. Consumers with a smart prepaid meter will get 25 paise of cheap electricity per unit. Already, the government is offering a 3 percent discount to recharge the prepaid meter. In addition, for six months after installing smart meters, the consumer will not pay any fines for consuming more electricity than the recommended burden.
