This project explains that even in the face of challenges such as cancer, sexual activity does not disappear, but it turns, and with the appropriate accompanying, it is possible to restore intimate relationship and pleasure. We are proud to promote this necessary and vital conversation of the quality of the life of our patients and their families. ”

It provides a “sexual life and cancer project, and a necessary conversation: breaking taboo and restoring pleasure”. Its creation responds to the need to treat sexual activity, which is an essential aspect of their lives, which has often remained silent.

Sexual activity, inherent in a person at every stage of life, is usually transferred to the background before diagnosis of tumors. The physical, emotional and psychological effects of the disease and its treatment can be generated by major changes, which affects the self -image, sexual desire and the ability of intimate relationship. It is estimated that 60 % of cancer survivors report a sexual defect. Talking about this problem remains forbidden, which makes it difficult for patients and professionals to address these concerns.

The project is designed for all of these people who have passed or passed through the state of cancer, including their partners if they want to participate and relatives. Workshops have been developed in a safe and confidential space in the facilities of the Spanish Society against Cancer in Fuentora.

In the face of this reality, the “sexual activity and cancer” intervention project is expressed on clear goals. In the first place, knowing the position that cancer patients and conditions that directly affect their sexual health to be able to interfere in it. At the same time, knowledge is promoted in the same sexual life, which allows the expression of tastes and interests, as well as the preference of emotional well -both individual and couple, during and after treatment. Likewise, participants are trained in tools and strategies to manage changes, emotional flexibility and personal empowerment.

The project methodology depends on a societal approach and a participatory approach, based on the reality and experience of people. A reflective process is created and analyzed beliefs, attitudes and practices. A participatory and durable evaluation is made throughout the project, taking into account the sexual perspective and comprehensive language.

The program includes workshops dealing with the concept of sexual activity and the discovery of the body, to sexual activity in various types of cancer and strategies to restore fun and emotional communication. It is recognized that “new sexual activity is possible” through acceptance, communication, exploration and enjoyment.
