According to the information issued by the newsletter of the UA Center for the Environment and Marine Studies (CESAM), the initial model, which replaces the previous 2023, includes the “most advanced” video cameras, along with a laser system for the detection of coastal Batimi measurement.

“A mixture of these technologies allows you to monitor water training and study operations associated with coastal corrosion better,” with data that must be collected to an expected innovative platform, which will allow you to help you understand how to form erosion, and identify the most aggressive winter and the most vulnerable coastal sites.

Mira Beach has been identified as a “hot point” for the coastal corrosion of the central area of Portugal, which motivates many academic investigation projects in the context of the cooperation protocol that celebrates it with the local municipality.

Paulo Pagan, a Cesam/DGEO researcher, said the new observation platform “is more advanced and unique in the country with these capabilities applied to monitoring the coastal tape and corrosion.”

Praia de Mira, which is a creative example of practical application, allows, for example, to help take measures “protecting the sand dune wire and direct the necessary interventions more effectively”, as well as “understanding the mechanisms associated with climate change” or developing adaptation and mitigation strategies.

Rhetoric

“What we want with this partnership is to ensure the protection of the coast and the safety of people. Therefore, the presence of protocols and partnerships that improve resources is very important. Mira Municipality has been always available to cooperate with the University of Affiro, in order to ensure these initiatives occur in the best possible way. Artur Jorge Fresco, mayor of Mira.

Projects

»The Atlantic Mission System, the project overcoming the project to provide visual coast assessment services in the actual time;

»Project Shoresaffty – a higher asymmetric model that includes, on the beach emergency area, create the automatic model of the topographic model of video and laser conjugation. In the submerged part, the Batimter printing methods will be applied to estimate the coastal measurement.
