More than 62 lakh smart meter consumers are going to get this benefit. Consumers with a smart prepaid meter will get 25 paise of cheap electricity per unit. Already, the government is offering a 3 percent discount to recharge the prepaid meter. In addition, for six months after installing smart meters, the consumer will not pay any fines for consuming more electricity than the recommended burden.

The cold storage is now placed in the LD (low tension) section with a capacity of up to 74 kW, while a separate type of cold storage has been created for 50 KV to 1500 KVA.
