Can Europe make environmental agriculture?

The European Commission has simplified the environmental duties of the farmers, but how does the next EU budget reform the general agricultural policy in the next EU?

According to the European Commission, simplification of certain rules (PAC) of common agricultural policy will save 1.58 billion euros per year to farmers and 210 million euros per year.

To achieve this goal, the EU manager proposed to make it easier for small farmers, in which the annual standard amount of 2500 euros and high flexible environmental controls, ie bumps, wet zones and watercorns.

Farmers will benefit from the easy mechanism for repaying natural disasters or animal diseases, and there will be a unique digital system to reduce the bureaucracy.

“Its goal is to make life easier for farmers and thereby contributes to their livelihood and well -being,” said Agricultural Policy Reporter Gerardo Forduna in Euronev.

The reporter said, “This is a reflection of the large -scale demonstrations of farmers we saw in last year’s Brussels and other EU countries,” the reporter said, “The long and sometimes violent waves of peasant demonstrations before 2024 European elections.”

Farmers are satisfied, but environmental activists say these activities will be the opposite. The latter argues that low environmental protection can lead to high climate change, which can damage agriculture.

“What we need to understand is that agriculture depends on nature. Therefore, the European Union is threatening or eliminating environmental rules for many years and the risk of the future of agriculture and farmers’ jobs,” said the environmentalist client Sarah Martin.

However, the European Farmers’ Federation emphasizes that the Copa-Kokeka emphasizes that “environmental purposes are in PAC”, but the commission intervened in areas that prove our farmers to be practical.

Is PAC strengthened or diluted in the next EU budget?

In the EU budget for 2021-2027, PAC received 386 billion euros, one-third of the total budget. For the budget of 2028-2034, the Commission protects the connecting PAC with the sync fund used for regional growth.

When the Commission submits its EU budget plan in July, a new financial tool called the National and Regional Investment Corporation may be announced, and farmers are opposed to this idea.

“We must invest in agriculture with a strong increase in inflation. We must request to maintain a common policy that can ensure a unique market, invest in the change of society, and actually support a strategic sector like agriculture,” Patricki said.

The Client Earth Officer agreed that investment in agriculture is important for food safety, but the PAC will not contribute to this target.

Sarah Martin said, “We do not have the necessary setbacks to deal with natural disasters caused by extreme agricultural practices, or we do not have the reasons to put the farmers in these situations.

The European Parliament also opposes this idea, in the latest resolution, the PAC has received funds autonomous and the next budget must get more funds.
