Gujarat Police Director General (DGP) Vikas Sahai said on Monday that 450 Bangladeshi citizens living in India have been identified without any documents. In addition, 6500 people have been detained on suspicion of being a citizen of Bangladesh, he said. After a large -scale search operation in Ahmedabad and Surat, similar campaigns were carried out in the entire state, in which illegal Bangladesh migrants were detained and their identity was verified. He said, “After a large -scale search operation in Ahmedabad and Surat, all the districts of Gujarat were asked to do this (identify the Bangladeshi citizens). According to the information that we received, we have prevented 6,500 suspicious Bangladeshi citizens. We feel that we will succeed.

The police are collecting evidence

After his identity was established as a Bangladeshi citizen, he said that action would be taken for their deportation with the coordination of various departments and border security forces (BSF) of the central government. More than 1,000 suspects have been investigated after search operations in Ahmedabad and Surat, police said. Sahai said the documents and technical evidence were collected before taking action to his deportation.

Government action

The Gujarat government said on Saturday that it launched its ‘biggest campaign’ against illegal Bangladeshi residents in the state and detained 890 and 134 ‘illegal’ immigrants in Ahmedabad and Surat, respectively. After the move, the government said in a statement that Home Harsh Sanghvi had created a video conference with senior police officers, intensify the campaign, investigate all the activities of the Bangladeshi and to take stern action where necessary.
