Up to 257 lakh tonnes of sugar production till April 30, 19 sugar mills still operate

In a statement on Thursday, the Indian Sugar Manufacturer Association has produced 256.90 lakh tonnes of sugar till April 30, with about 19 sugar mills.

According to Ima, currently about 10 sugar mills are still operating in Uttar Pradesh, of which 8 are in West Uttar Pradesh. These mills are expected to work for the next 7 to 10 days. Improved sugarcane yields have increased the availability of sugarcane in Uttar Pradesh, making some mills to continue their crushing work. In addition, in the second half of the season, better sugar was produced due to improved sugar restoration.

8 factories on Tamil Nadu

The main season of the cane is that there are 8 factories in Tamil Nadu, said Isma in a press release. A sugar mill in Pune works until the second week of Maharashtra, May. To increase production, some factories in South Karnataka and Tamil Nadu resume the crushing of the special season from June/July to 2025. Historically, 4-5 lakh tonnes of sugar is collectively produced during the special season of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NCCF) has also released the production of sugar. According to the NFCSF, crushing continues for 2024-25 seasons in 19 sugar mills nationwide till April 30. A total of 2758.57 lakh tonnes (LMT) was crushed, which produced 256.95 lakh tonnes of sugar. Compared to last season, 23 sugar mills were operating in the same period, and crushing reached 3115.12 lakh tonnes of sugar, producing 314.65 lakh tonnes of sugar.

534 Sugar Mills Crush

According to the NCCF, 534 sugar mills were involved in the current season, and in the previous season, 535 sugar mills were involved in the season.

In the current season (from October 2024 to September 2025), between the sugar production fall on Wednesday, the center of the Sugarcane Season 2025-26 has increased to Rs 355 per quintal for Rs 1555 per quintal. The new FRP applies from October 1, 2025. This is a mandatory minimum price issued by the government and the sugar mills should be paid to farmers.
