This year’s huge bounce in wheat purchase, this number has reached 20 million tonnes

There are reports about stable piles of grain in Punjab and Haryana Mandis. Meanwhile, the speed of wheat collection for buffer stock has slowed from government agencies such as Food Corporation of India (FCI). However, the collection of wheat is about 20 million tonnes. That is, until April 24, the purchase was 19.86 million tonnes, which were 13.58 million tonnes a year ago, 46 percent. On April 24, the daily purchase was 1.47 MT, which was 1.67 MT a year ago, and on April 21, it rose 14.1 per cent to 1.48 MT on April 21.

Grain piles in Punjab-Haryana

An official source said, “There is no decrease in daily purchase, but last year’s purchase size has increased, which is more likely to be delayed for the crop compared in 2024.” However, in the last 710 days, private procurement in Uttar Pradesh has increased, which has increased slightly, he said.

On the other hand, there are reports that there is a slow lifting of grains from some districts of Punjab and Haryana. According to sources, the government is setting up more racks to maintain grains from these states, as some of the newly created silos are filled.

The highest purchase of wheat in Punjab

According to the latest data, despite the delay, the purchase of wheat in Punjab has exceeded all other states. This season reached 6.84 mt until April 24, which was 4.58 MT in the same period last year. Haryana said she had reached 5.89 mt against 5.19 MT a year ago. The goal of buying most metric tons of wheat

Based on the feedback from the state governments, the Center has set a target of buying 31.27 metric tonnes of wheat this year, including 12.4 metric tonnes from Punjab, 7.5 tonnes from Haryana, 6 tonnes from Madhya Pradesh

Will have a lot of tons of wheat production

The Ministry of Agriculture estimates that wheat production will be recorded at 115.43 MT in the 2024-25 crop year (July-June), which is more than 113.29 MT in 2023-24. According to data, after the purchase began from March 15, the FCI in Madhya Pradesh bought 5.65 metric tonnes of wheat against 3.11 metric tonnes in the same period last year. Explain that the state government has announced a bonus of Rs 175 per quintal in addition to the minimum support price (MSP) for Quintal. Last year, the government bought 4.84 metric tons of wheat from Madhya Pradesh in the entire season.

Rajasthan, which has relaxed quality standards under the correct, average quality (frequent questions) standards, has reached 0.88 mt, which is less than 0.26 mt a year ago. Due to the bonus given by the state government, the purchase target is likely to reach 2 metric tons.

Brown prices above MSP

At the same time, there is concern in Uttar Pradesh, because there is no improvement in the speed of collection, despite an unofficial ban on providing racks to private traders to carry food grains from the state. Merchants are paying Rs 2,600-2,650 per quintal in Shah Jhanpur, which is considered a major productive sector for better quality. But this month, wheat prices in Shahjahanpur ranges from Rs 2,450 to Rs 2,500 per quintal. In such a situation, the rates in the most major wheat mandis in the state are slightly higher than MSP, while the state average price is Rs 2,446 per quintal.

On Friday, Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh was Rs 2,494 per quintal, Rs 2,473 per quintal in Rajasthan, Rs 2,426 for Quintal in Haryana and Rs 2,427 in Punjab.
