These two special measures can protect the cotton crop from Pink Sundi, one is very popular abroad

Pink Sundi means Pink Balworm (PBW) has become a worst dream for cotton farm farmers in North India. Because of its attack, the entire crop is destroyed. In Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana, it was very panicking, and many farmers have now avoided cotton cultivation. According to experts, Pink Sundi BT cotton crops are especially damaged. No one knows that BT cotton has been found because Pink Sundi is safe from the attack. But now there are many attacks on it. Cotton farmers began to suffer a lot, some started taking action such as suicide.

What is the ‘gold standard’ of the crop

There are two basic methods to prevent the spread of PBW and both depend on the interruption of the insect reproductive process. Their cost is Rs 3,300 to 3,400 per acre. Under the first technique, a kind of paste is used near the stems of cotton plant. This technology is environmentally friendly and is considered the ‘gold standard’ of crop safety in Western countries.

Not PB technique

According to experts, this paste leaves synthetic phamones that attract male insects. But because these pherumons are large, these male insects are unable to find female pests. It disrupts the reproductive process and reduces the population of Sundi. For about 7000 cotton plants, the paste should be planted on 350-400 plants spread throughout the field, three times -45-50 days, 80 days and 110 days later.

The second technology known as PB Not Technology also works on this principle. In this, thread pastes with pheromone dispenser are strategically placed on cotton fields so that the male kites are confused and they do not find females. This dispenser should be tied to cotton plants for 45-50 days.

Spraying pesticides

BT Cotton, made for resistance from Pink Sundi, is now the victim. Although effective methods are available to prevent Sundi attacks, farmers are still not adopting these techniques. Experts at the Agricultural University in Ludhiana said that soon after the Pink Sundi was found in the crop, the pesticides would be sprayed immediately. By repeatedly spraying, they can save cotton bouquets that are not affected. If insects are already filed in any guy, it is difficult to protect them.

Bake the residue immediately

Experts have advised farmers to stop planting cotton crop at least one season in farms with Pink Sundi infection. Apart from this, farmers should burn the crop residues at the beginning. It should also be confirmed that there is no mixture between healthy and unhealthy seeds (or cotton). The same advice applies to cotton factories that keep healthy and ashwat seeds separately.
