According to a recently released report, grain -based ethanol industry will increase the income of Indian farmers to Rs 35,000 crore. The report was prepared by the Grain Ethanol Manufacturers Association and Premus Partners, launched at the Round Table Conference in Delhi this week.

The rest of the grains will benefit

The report states that ethanol can be made from 165 lakh tonnes of grains annually using the remaining grains such as corn and broken rice. For this reason, farmers can earn up to Rs 35,000 crore directly.

The importance of ethanol

Ethanol not only boosts the income of farmers but also plays an important role in the country’s fuel security, rural development and climate change. India has shown the goal of the ethanol mixture in advance. The 10% of the mixture in 2022 was completed before the target time and now it has increased to 20% by January 2025.

Ethanol is also good for the environment

In the H -report, corn is described as a very suitable crop as it is effective as the process of converting it into ethanol as there is less water consumption. Ethanol has saved over Rs 1.08 lakh crore foreign currency so far, with 185 lakh tonnes of crude oil and 557 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions have been reduced.

There are also challenges before

However, the sector is also facing some challenges. AS:

  • Corn rising prices
  • Contest between different states
  • Lack of transparency in addressing ethanol prices
  • Declining the profits of distillers

Some suggestions to solve these issues are also listed in the report:

  • Passification
  • Determining the cost of ethanol according to the cost of corn
  • The surplus rice of FCI continues until corn production
  • Ethanol sub-products like DDGs (dried soluble grains) strengthen the domestic market

The obvious message of the report is that if the government and the industry work together, grain -based ethanol will increase the income of farmers and significantly contribute to the transformation of India into itself.
