‘Punjab’s paddy farmers will have a loss of Rs 8 to 10 thousand rupees, ”opened a front of the FSI Man’s government

The Punjab government has banned the cultivation of paddy hybrid varieties during the upcoming kharif season. In this regard, the Indian Seed Industry Federation (FSII) on Tuesday demanded that the Center be intervened in the ban on hybrid rice seeds in Punjab. The FSI has warned that there will be a huge reduction in the income of the farmers when the kharif seeds are close to the seed season. FSI President Ajay Rana said the ban imposed on April 7 was Rs 8,000-10,000 per acre.

‘A month’s income will be lost’

In a statement, Ajay Rana said that by banning these seeds, the state has been effectively eliminating a small farmer’s income. The Punjab government has banned hybrid rice cultivation, expressing concerns, and the milling recovery is poorly accused of groundwater reduction. However, FSII dismisses these claims and the hybrid varieties give higher yields, preserve water and reduce dull burning.

FSII submitted special reports

Rana said the FSI had submitted the results of FSI milk from the Punjab Agricultural University, ICAR multi-located tests and IR grain quality laboratory. Hybrid varieties have recorded total milling recovery and more than 60 percent head-race 70 to 72.5 percent, which is much higher than FCI standards.

The government challenged the Seed ban on the High Court

The Punjab officials and the Union Agriculture Ministry have contacted the FSI in addition to filing a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Justice Kuldeep Tiwari urged the state government to justify the legal basis for the ban. Rana argued that the state center would not ban the seeds approved by the Center, under the provisions of the Seed Act 1966 and the Seed Control Order, 1983.

State Approval Seeds cannot be banned by the state: FSII

He said that state governments could control the quality, but could not prohibit the sale of seeds approved by the Center. The ban has created uncertainty for farmers who have salted soil benefits from this application worthy seeds, especially in the Malwa region of hybrid rice. Seed dealers who have already invested in the purchase of hybrid rice are also facing very financial loss. (PTI)
