Hubble 35 years: What is the future of telescope that changed astronomical science

This Thursday (24), the Hubble telescope completes 35 years of space observationsBringing many progress in astronomy and changing the way we observe the space.

The device was launched on April 24, 1990 as partnership between NASA (United States Space Agency) and European Space Agency) to understand the universe well. It is located at a distance of 515 km from the ground, considering less than one million observations in these three decades.

AS Pictures More than 21,000 studies and 1.2 million publications have been represented this earlier. Oh Hubble Already helped scientists to determine the weather composition of planetary.

Putting the hubble in orbit is an attempt to escape the difficulties faced to observe the space with telescops on the surface of the earth, as the atmosphere of our planet obstructs some wavelengths and makes the space photos less clear.

In the orbit, the telescope can prevent this interference and capture images more confident in more detail and reality.

The future of the hub

Last year, scientists responsible for keeping the telescope have set up a new path to prevent observation shortcomings and to ensure that it will follow it for the next decade.

Traditionally, the Hubble works with six gyroscope – the tools that determine the direction he pointed out – but most of them showcased performance shortcomings over time, and the telescope has been interrupted several times in the Universe in 2024. For this reason, the NASA team has decided that the future will work with only one functional and reservoir.

“This is our best approach to supporting Hubble Science for a decade and later, because most observations in space are not affected by this change,” said NASA’s Astrophysics Division of Scientific Missions at the time.

However, the change comes with limits.

The telescope requires more time to move and solve the objects that are observing it, which reduces its efficiency and flexibility – that is, it can do fewer observations in time.

The Hubble -2030s are expected to operate up to the mid -2030s, its cosmic observations complete the work of James Web Space Telescope – launched in 2021 – and yet a future observatories.

“We can’t see it as the Hubble is in its last days and we think this is a very effective observatory,” said NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in 2024 Hubble Space Telescope Manager Patrick Crows.
