Himachal Pradesh knows the whole world for the production of the best apples, but there is also a farmer in this Himachal, with the help of organic farming. He not only raises Kiwi, but is a good success. Pratap Bharan, a resident of Himachal, shocked everyone by raising Kiwi on his ancestor’s land and winning it. Pratap belongs to Badkhore village and the village comes in solan district. Surprisingly, he knows nothing more than traditional apple cultivation. Even after this, the success of Kiwi cultivation became an inspiration to the rest of the farmers.
Apple cultivation has no more benefit
Competition in the market has increased due to imported apples. For this reason, the supply of apples has also increased. On the other hand, the changing climate has reduced the chances of making a lot of profits in front of farmers in Apple cultivation. According to the website 30 stations report, Pratap started looking for a solution to these challenges and for this he visited Dr. Yashavant Singh in 2017 in Nani. Here he learned the reviews of Kiwi cultivation in an organic manner. Kiwi Suppling bought the University for Rs 170 and Pratap 100 Sapling.
80 thousand profits for the first time
Pratap planted these saplings into his farm in more than 2.5 Bighas. Himachal is equal to five bigs per acre. After this, Pratap started adding 100 sapping every year. Four years later, in 2021, Kiwi’s first batch plants started harvesting. Pratap cultivated a 360 kg crop and gained Rs 80,000. At the same time, he understands that he chose the right crop for himself. Today there are three Kiwi stories in his garden- Haward, Elison and Monty. During the previous season, his trees gave him 21600 kg. After this, Pratap sold him from Rs 25 to 250 per kg. In this way, he benefited from Rs 42 lakh.
What is the secret to Kiwi’s success
Pratap’s victory is behind Kiwi’s victory in the Indian market. Due to urbanization and awareness, Kiwi’s demand is growing. Kiwi is considered the main source of vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants. According to Eximpadia, in 2023-24, India imported Kiwi at $ 51 million from New Zealand, Iran and Chile. Day by day, the growing Kiwi demand has become beneficial products for Indian farmers. Also, its maintenance is not very difficult. At the international level, the Kiwi market is 8 7.8 billion in 2024. It is expected to reach 98 9.98 billion by 2030.
Cow dung manure and use of water
In Pratap garden, the old trees of Kiwi give a yield of 60 to 70 kg of kiwi. New trees get a yield of 30 to 40 kg. He packed Kiwi in the box and went to Mandis. According to Pratap, he only used water and cow manure manure in Kiwi cultivation. Apart from this, he prefers the irrigation to provide water to the roots of the plant.
According to Pratap, the fruits are small due to lack of water. At the same time, the plants get all the nutritious elements from the cow dung manure and they do not need any chemicals in such a situation. The plant of Kiwi is strong and is unlikely to attack insects in such a situation. Also, if its leaves are a little bitter and tough, avoid eating animals. However, the timely conflict of the tree is very important. For this, Pratap was placed on the farm, and they were packing the rest of the plant along with the harvest.
