The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 has now become a law. The bill has been approved by President Dhrubadi Murmu. Prior to the president’s approval, the Waqf bill was passed from both houses.

In a statement, the government said, “The Waqf Amendment passed by Parliament was approved by the President on April 5 2025 and published for general information: Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.”

After a long debate in the Rajya Sabha, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill passed Friday morning, which had a sharp noise between the ruling party and the opposition. In the Rajya Sabha, the bill was discussed for about 14 hours, and 128 votes were supported and 95 votes, after which it was passed. Earlier, the Lok Sabha was approved after a 12 -hour debate, of which 288 votes and 232 votes were opposed.

Opposition parties protested

During the discussion on the bill in both houses, the government replied that fierce objections were expressed by the opposition parties, which claimed that the bill was unconstitutional, and that historical reforms would benefit the minority community. Transparency will be ensured in managing Waqf properties.

4 petitions were filed in the Supreme Court

At the same time, on Saturday, 2 more petitions were filed in the Supreme Court demanding the ban or prohibition of the rules of the law. A petition in Delhi has been filed by the Aam Aadmi Party MLA and Waqf fraud and alleged fraud, Amanatullah Khan, who filed other petition by the association for protection on civil rights matters.

Earlier on Friday, the Congress MP. Mohammed Javed and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslim (AIMIM) leader, Azaduddin Owaisi, challenged the validity of the Waqf (amendment) bill in the Supreme Court on Friday, which claimed that it would violate the constitutional rules.

Javed’s petition accused Waqf assets and their administration, which weaken the religious autonomy of the Muslim community.

The petition, filed by lawyer Anas Danveer, says, “It is discriminating against the Muslim community by imposing such restrictions on the administration of other religious institutions.”

Lok Sabha MP from Kishanganjan in Bihar Jawadi He was a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee set up on the bill and accused the bill of “Waqf from building a person based on a period of religious behavior.”

In his separate petition, Owaisi said that the bill has taken various protection for Waqf and Hindu, Jain and Sikh religious and charity.

Owaisi’s petition filed by lawyer Lajfir Ahmed said, “The reducing the security of Waqf and the maintenance of the religious and charity of other religions is a violation of Article 14 and 15 of the Constitution, which violates the restrictions on the basis of religion.”
