1 crore cotton pastes in MSP, Telangana and Maharashtra on top of the top

Cotton purchase on minimum support price (MSP) by Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has reached 1 crore (every 170kg) for the 2024-25 marketing season. Telangana tops the list of states that purchased the maximum amounts, followed by the Government of Maharashtra and Gujarat.
CCI chairman Lalit Kumar said that the purchase of 1 crore bales has been completed and the purchase work is still ongoing. As of March 26, 40.38 lakh knots were purchased in Telangana, 29.34 lakh knots in Maharashtra, 14.1 lakh in Gujarat and 5.22 lakh bales in Karnataka. 3.95 lakh knots were purchased in Madhya Pradesh and 3.83 lakh bales were purchased in Andhra Pradesh.
The CCI has bought faster
After 2019-20, the CCI bought more cotton for the second time. 1.05 crores of lumps were purchased that year. With this, the CCI bought one -third of all cotton products born in the country. This time cotton production is likely to decline. Earlier, about 3 crore pastes were estimated, which was reduced to 294 lakh knots.

On the other hand, Parliament has bought 99.41 lakh lumps on the minimum support price (MSP) from farmers till March 25 this year, and a total of 260.11 lakh mosquitoes have come to the market. Similarly, the government has spent Rs 11,712 crore under the MSP scheme to buy cotton from farmers during the cotton season in 2023-24.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha of Textiles Pabitra Margerita, the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has helped farmers and bought 32.84 lakh knots under the MSP scheme, which benefited 7.25 lakh cotton farmers in all cotton -producing states. The government gives the MSP to provide beneficial prices to cotton farmers and protects them from selling the right average quality (FAQ) at cheaper than cotton prices.

The minister said that the purchase prices made by the government could be prevented from lower than the MSP level. In addition, for the global branding of Indian clothing, the government has registered Musk Cotton as the Brand Trademark of India to give Indian cotton with premium quality. The support given to cotton farmers plays an important role in promoting India’s textile export growth.
