Gaza also hurts us in Fortivura
The opinion of the head of Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García
From Fuerteventura, we raise the sound before the barbarism that takes place in Gaza. We cannot look at the other direction while committing a mass crime in front of the world’s eyes. It is not enough to regret. It is not enough with empty data or speeches. What happens is unacceptable. And yes: It is also our responsibility.
Gaza is today the greatest detention camp in modern history. In only 360 square kilometers – a quarter of the lands of Forttentera – more than 2.2 million people trapped with a brutal blockade imposed by the government of Israel for years. A collective penalty that turned daily life into Gaza into a continuous conflict for survival.
After the terrible attacks on October 7, 2023 (which we also condemn), the government of Israel launched an impartial, enlarged and regular military attack. The houses are bombed, hospitals are raised, and food and medicines are prohibited. He is killed by bombs, but also hungry, thirsty, fear. The collective punishment is implemented with no place in any legal or moral framework. This is not a defense. It is extermination.
The government of Israel is guilty because of its criminal actions. It is a government that acts with complete punishment, violates international humanitarian law, and destroys innocent lives and ingenuity of terrorism. But he is not only responsible. We are also silent. They are governments, institutions and international organizations that condemn words, but not with the facts. They organize summits, meetings and data … while bombs continue to fall on trapped civilians.
How many general condemnations are required? How many reports, how many speeches, how many dark tears, while allowing ethnic cleaning in the twenty -first century?
From Fuerteventura, as head of Capildo and as a citizen, I strongly reject this mass crime. Claiming justice, and demanding the immediate end of violence. Gaza does not need more silence. It needs work, protection and humanity.
Because crimes against humanity are not negotiated. Because Gaza’s pain is also our.
