European alternatives to Starling are Govsatcom, Udelzat and Iris 2

In Ukraine, the result of war goes through space. The Starling American Satellites Network is currently essential. Provides link to Ukrainian forces on the ground. But the unpredictable character of its owner, Multihilian Elon Mask, is concerned about Kiev and the European Union (EU).

“Elon Mask, in fact, is a Ukrainian guardian on the battlefield. This is a strategic impact,” says Arthur de Litkreke, senior director of European things in Rasmusen Global.

However, the MEF Christof Crutler (Europe renewal) emphasizes that there are alternatives that can compete with the US galaxy in the EU.

“The instructions for changing Starling are clear to us.” However, the French MEF does not want to urgent this possibility because it takes some time to change Elon Mask’s satellites.

“Of course, if Starling decides to reduce the signal today, we have options, especially with Kovsatkam, this is the European network we have in service, and if necessary, if necessary, if necessary, if necessary, will allow Starling’s missing signal if needed.”

Govsatcom makes the existing government spatial skills available. The purpose of the organization is to provide reliable and safe networks to EU public officials. Ukraine has already expressed interest in this system.

According to Christoff Crutler, there is no problem in this solution. “The EU is very dedicated to helping Ukraine, so there will be a contract from all member states to help Ukraine if Starlink stops the signal in the future,” he says.

Arthur de Litkerke, on the other hand, has a higher reservation for this option. “Govsatcom is a safe satellite government communications organization, its main purpose is to provide reliable, strategic and strategic autonomous networks for inter -European government communications services. This is not an alternative to the battlefield we are talking about with Ukraine,” he says. “At this time, this is not a silver bullet.”

Industrial solution

The other option is to believe in Udelzat. Franko-British can provide quality services equivalent to Starling because it has also chosen a low terrain orbit galaxy.

However, the amount between the two companies is asymmetry. Starling has 7000 satellites, against 630 from Udelzut. But 35 satellites in Udelzut are in the geo -orbit, which means that the Earth is too far away.

However, the option of Udelzat raises an industrial and business problem. The US company has about 40,000 terminals in Ukraine, not only by the military. The public is using Starling to connect or make calls to the Internet. On the contrary, Franko-British has 2,000 terminals on the site. More than 4,000 can be installed soon and 10,000 devices have been ordered. Finally, the price of a Starling terminal is estimated at 500 euros, which is against the 9000 euros of the Yukst.

But the European company has political benefits. It does not depend on the United States and has the support of two European nuclear power.

“Udelzad is a person who relies on the functional solutions we support through financial and political will,” says Arthur de Litkerke.

Solution for the future

There is a last option in medium shape European project iris2 (Satellite setback, interconnected communication and safety infrastructure). This galaxy of 290 Multi -Rich satellites will provide secure connection services to the EU in the lower orbit (Leo 2,000 km) and medium (2,000 to 36,000 km). This galaxy will provide a low delay, ie high -speed transactions close to the performance of land networks.

The 12-year-old public-private concession contract for IRIS2 development and exploitation was awarded to space. This federation includes more weights of Udelzat, Spanish Hispasad and SES Luxembourg, as well as Talas, OH, Airbus security and spacepacio, toich telecom, orange and histusat.

However, the IRIS2 is still not implemented because the system is not fully functional before 2030. But Christoff Crutler, a partner of the European Parliament, ensures that services are available earlier.

“Since 2028, we have a functional IRIS 2 galaxy, and it is capable of providing telecommunications services to all member states. This is the first time I am gaining a preservative galaxy in the post -value encryption, so this galaxy is not possible.

According to Arthur de Litegerke, this diversity is essential. He explains, “This is about having options. It does not have a point of a failure. It can be said to say no one of them and join.”

“We left the link of the Ukraine war zone in the hands of a man (…) This is a strategic impact. If we have options and alternatives, we will avoid the point of this unique failure.”
